Nucleotide sequence of a heat-shock and ripening-related cDNA from tomato.

چکیده
An mRNA complementary to a tomato cDNA (pTOM66) has been shown to accumulate during fruit ripening, leaf senescence (1), and following incubation of fruit at elevated temperature (2). The nucleotide sequence of this cDNA is presented. The derived amino acid sequence shows it to be related to a number of known heat-shock proteins of similar size (3) (4), although it is clearly expressed under non-stress conditions (1, 2). Structure and expression of an ethylene-related mRNA from tomato.
Messenger RNAs homologous to a cDNA clone (pTOM 13) derived from a ripe-tomato-specific cDNA library are expressed during tomato fruit ripening and after the wounding of leaf and green fruit material. Both responses involve the synthesis of the hormone ethylene. Accumulation of the pTOM 13--homologous RNA during ripening is rapid and sustained, and reaches its maximum level in orange fruit. Fol...
متن کاملNucleotide sequence of a cDNA for 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase from melon fruits.
Ethylene is a plant hormone that has an essential role in fruit ripening (Yang and Hoffman, 1984; Kende, 1993). ACC synthase (S-adenosyl-L-methionine methylethioadenosine-lyase, EC 4.4.1.14), which is encoded by a multigene family, plays a regulatory role in ethylene production. Severa1 genes for ACC synthase have been isolated from tomato (Rottmann et al., 1991), mung bean (Botella et al., 199...
متن کاملRipening-related polygalacturonase cDNA from avocado.
During the ripening of avocado (Persea americana) fruit, extensive cell wall degradation leads to a dramatic softening of the mesocarp tissue. Two enzymes have been suggested to play a critica1 role in this ripening-associated cell wall degradation in many fruits, including avocado, viz. cellulase (endo-~-1,4-glucanase) and endo-PG (Awad and Young, 1979; Fischer and Bennett, 1991). Although the...
متن کاملExpression of small heat-shock proteins at low temperatures. A possible role in protecting against chilling injuries.
We previously reported that short exposure of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) fruits to high temperature protects them from chilling injury. To study the involvement of heat-shock proteins (HSPs) in the acquisition of low-temperature tolerance, we cloned two heat-shock-induced genes that are also expressed at low temperatures. The cloned cDNAs belong to the small HSP group. Sequence analyse...
متن کاملA novel small heat shock protein gene, vis1, contributes to pectin depolymerization and juice viscosity in tomato fruit.
We have characterized a novel small heat shock protein gene, viscosity 1 (vis1) from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and provide evidence that it plays a role in pectin depolymerization and juice viscosity in ripening fruits. Expression of vis1 is negatively associated with juice viscosity in diverse tomato genotypes. vis1 exhibits DNA polymorphism among tomato genotypes, and the alleles vis1-...
